The Monday Afternoon Bible Study is at least 30 years old and would probably have become another victim of COVID without the work of Connie Johnson
Connie joined the Monday Afternoon Bible study class in September 2016 and has actively participated in the class since that time. Connie is also an active member of the prayer shawl knitters group and was instrumental in recruiting some new members for the Bible study class from that group.
As COVID struck we were still meeting in the Parish community center. When it became obvious that we would no longer be able to have in-person classes, it was Connie that suggested that we continue our classes using ZOOM. She was familiar with ZOOM and offered to pay for and use her own ZOOM account for the class. This required extensive education of herself as the host and to instruct the other class participants. It is an elderly group and many of the class members had never heard of Zoom and needed much hand-holding to get familiar with it.
Connie assumed this leadership role in the use of ZOOM and continues to volunteer her account for the class. She also sends out weekly reminders with the Zoom ID and password.
Connie’s willingness to instruct us in the use of ZOOM and to host the meetings has not only kept the Monday group alive through the pandemic but also allowed others who might not be able to drive to in-person classes to join.
