Brian Murphy joined the Bread Ministry about seven years ago when I took over as coordinator from John Shenk. He picks up bread and desserts from Tom Thumb at Preston and Frankford. But more importantly, Brian is my "go-to" volunteer and will go to virtually any donation site I ask him to on short notice when I cannot go as a "last minute" replacement. Brian takes his donations to Catholic Charities St. Jude Senior Center, North Dallas Shared Ministries, or Union Gospel Mission, wherever he thinks there is the greatest need. All three facilities serve meals or give much-needed bread and dessert staples to the homeless or the needy of Dallas County. Through his service, Brian, a long-time St. Monica parishioner of more than 30 years, shows that St. Monica's Parish branches out and helps care for the needy throughout the city of Dallas. His exemplary service typifies the Catholic value of serving others, a commitment that all 60 or so Bread ministers exemplify.
