Melba Corley has been serving the Bread Ministry for the past 15 years. She currently picks up bread and desserts from two Central Markets, the one at Preston and Royal (every other Tuesday morning), and the one at Midway and Northwest Highway (every other Thursday morning). Melba will also graciously take on any last-minute runs when I ask her. Melba is very conscientious and will always let me know if she or one of her two partners cannot get the donation. Melba takes her very generous Central Market donations on Tuesdays to the Union Gospel Mission (hereinafter the Mission) and on Thursdays to the North Dallas Shared Ministries (NDSM). The Mission in West Dallas serves meals to the homeless, and NDSM gives much-needed bread and dessert staples to the needy of northwest Dallas. By her service, Melba, a long-time St. Monica parishioner, shows that St. Monica’s Parish branches out and helps care for the needy throughout the city of Dallas. Her exemplary service typifies the Catholic value of serving others, a commitment that all 50 or so Bread ministers exemplify. Melba has been a parishioner of St. Monica for 24 years, since 9/3/2000.
