George Conkey joined the Bread ministry several years ago. He picks bread and desserts up from two Tom Thumbs, one at Inwood and University (every other Thursday morning), and the other at Northwest Highway and Boedecker (every other Sunday morning). It is this second run that I am very thankful George has taken on, as this is typically a difficult run to fill. George is very conscientious and will always let me know if he or one of his two partners cannot get the donation. George takes his donations to North Dallas Shared Ministries (on Thursdays) and to Union Gospel Mission (on Sundays). Both facilities serve meals or give much needed bread and dessert staples to the homeless or the needy of Dallas County. By his service, George, a long-time St. Monica parishioner, shows that St. Monica’s Parish branches out and helps care for the needy throughout the city of Dallas. His exemplary service typifies the Catholic value of serving others, a commitment that all 50 or so Bread ministers exemplify. Nominated by Tony Cardillo
