Pastor 1954-1962
St. Monica Parish was established on February 9, 1954, when the boundaries of Christ the King and Our Lady of Perpetual Help were adjusted to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population in Dallas. The property consisted of 11.1 acres. The first Mass was celebrated in the Walnut Hill Elementary School auditorium on March 7, 1954.
The construction of the Sister's Convent began on Monday, June 13, 1955. The first group of Bernadine Sisters arrived on August 26, 1955. Classes began on October 24 with an enrollment of 512 students.
On Holy Thursday March 29, 1956, St, Monica Parish held its first Mass in the temporary church. On Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956, the regular Mass schedule began.
The Most Reverend Thomas Gorman, Bishop of Dallas assisted by Bishop Danglmayr celebrated the blessing and dedication of the Convent, Church, and school on May 4, 1957 which was the original Feast Day of St. Monica.
