"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.

For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."

Confirmation Mission Statement

St. Monica's Faith Formation program seeks to partner with families in helping make life long disciples of Jesus Christ. St. Monica's does so by teaching the richness of the Catholic Faith and creating opportunities for youth to encounter Christ in the sacramental life of the Church.

Program Requirements

  • Youth typically begin preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the 7th grade, but some youth begin preparation in 8th grade or High School.  After completing two consecutive  years of preparation and formation, youth are fully initiated into the life of the Catholic Church through reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

  • Youth are also expected to attend a Confirmation Retreat to prepare them spiritually for the reception of the Sacrament. At St. Monica students attend an overnight two day Confirmation Retreat called Shift which is held at the beginning of each school year. More information can be found in the Confirmation Parent Booklet.

  • As part of their Sacramental preparation, students are to select a Confirmation patron Saint and are also expected to perform the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. More information about each are in the student's Confirmation record booklet.

  • Youth are to select a Confirmation sponsor and attend a one day retreat with their Sponsor. More information can be found in the Confirmation Parent Booklet.
