Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion
Children come to classes to be prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for two consecutive academic years.
Children may receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist after reaching the age of reason at 7 years of age. Children ordinarily start their first year of sacramental preparation in first grade and celebrate Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion in second grade.
Parent Faith Formation for First Holy Communion Parents
Parents are the first ones that introduce their children to the Catholic faith. To this end, we support parents in their primary role as catechists by providing a series of classes geared toward helping parents spiritually prepare their children for the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
If parent has a child in their second year of sacramental preparation, parents are expected to take these classes. These classes are offered at the same time that children are receiving faith formation. In the fall semester, parents take a class called Forgiven and in the second semester parents take a class on the Eucharist. These classes are held in the Library Meeting room from 3:15 – 4:45 p.m.
