Children's Faith Formation (Kinder - 6th Grade)
Our mission at St. Monica is to help our children become life long disciples of Jesus Christ by sharing our faith in God, helping our students develop a relationship with God, sharing scripture with our students, creating opportunities for them to participate in the sacramental life of the Church and by praying for our students. We are honored at St. Monica to be partnering with our families in helping families become a true domestic Church.
Traditional Classroom Teaching and Family Religious Education
At St. Monica, families have the option of having their children participate in a traditional classroom setting or having their children do catechetical study in the home which we refer to as Family Religious Education.
Traditional classes are held on Sunday afternoons from 3:15 - 4:45 p.m. These classes follow the academic year. They start in September and end in early May. These classes are led by catechists and catechist aids. We encourage parents to volunteer and participate in these classes.
In Family Religious Education, families select an parish approved text, follow a parish time line on when to complete work at home, and come to the parish once a month for additional support. Children come with their families. Family Religious Education meets the third Saturday of each month starting in September with a final meeting in May.
Family RE is available for students in grades Kinder - 6th grade.
A homeschooling option is available for 7th - 12th grade students who are preparing for Confirmation. They also meet once a month at the parish on the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. from September through beginning of May.
*If your child is preparing to receive a Sacrament, it is important they participate in two consecutive years of formation enrolled in our Family Religious Education program or that they are enrolled in our traditional CCD classes.
